One of the task of a good Network engineer is to update the Cisco IOS to avoid bugs and to have new features; but what is the correct procedure to upgrade a Cisco stack, for instance two 2960 switches in stack? There are two main methods to upgrade the IOS:
Is it possible to load cisco ios 15.x into an old 2960 or 3560? I tried to do that (study purpose) and it's throwing an error. The error I see apparently has to do while decompressing the image or at least that's what I see. Is it because the boot loader (version 12.2) is unable to handle the new image? Any pointers will be appreciated if it can be made to work.

Cisco provides a wide range of switches under its Catalyst brand. The Catalyst brand encompasses many series of switches with each series targeting a particular part or size of a network. The CCNA exam focuses on the 2960 series of switches in the Catalyst brand. 2960 switches are low-cost wiring closet switches that you would expect to be used at the Access layer (remember the Cisco Hierarchical model) for providing network connectivity to hosts.
Each model in the 2960 series switch is different in terms of the number of physical network interfaces it has but overall each model looks similar. Figure 3-3 shows the front faceplate of the switch. The back of the switch only consists of the AC power input.
Great little switch and a great introduction, too. Are there plans to do the same as a layer 2 switch? Some customers might prefer to do the routing on another device, a local firewall for example. I like the 3750 a lot, but when the 2960S appeared the need for layer 3 switches in the wiring closet was gone.
In my opinion, the Cisco switches are the best in the market. Versatile, reliable, flexible and powerful, the Cisco switch product line (such as the 2960, 3560, 3650, 3850, 4500, 6500, 9400 series etc) offer unparalleled performance and features.

Cisco 2960 Intercon 1 switch fail. Cisco 2960 Internet 1 switch fail. Primary Active ASA 5550 Fail. Incase of failure of DC-IMCX-ASA-PRI , failover will be triggered and DC-IMCX-ASA-SEC will become active and will host active IP. As DC-IMCX-CORE-1 is working in L2 mode for Application & Database zone, there will be no failover at switch level. 2ff7e9595c
